Drinking Glass

A drinking glass is hard and stable, it is capable of containing a liquid and it is soft on our lips. We know this from past experiences using drinking glasses. Just like we know that glass is tranparent, hard and sharp.

But what happens when we are confronted with a drinking vessel made from glass that posesses none of the above mentioned qualities? Can we still recognize it as a drinking glass? And what are our expectations if someone were to use the unfamiliar drinking glass?

We interpret everything around us and use our past experiences and expectations in doing so. None of what we see is seen neutrally. Things are what they are because we read them in a certain way. The perceiving subject is important in understanding the object percieved.
